Talking Travel Beer with Frank Seta from the Lucky Turtle

Jesse and Tom invited Frank Seta, owner and bar tender at the Lucky Turtle, over for a conversation about traveling and beer. We started off with what local Cincinnati beer we’d bring with us on a trip, either to drink by ourselves or share with friends we met along the way. From there the conversation ranged into how to travel with beer, either driving or flying and where to travel with or for beer. We wrapped things up with a discussion on beer destinations cities and if Cincinnati is one, or what it’d take for us to become one.

We also had some technical difficulties while filming, so please forgive the slides at the beginning, the audio is great throughout and the video picks up around the 11-minute mark. We promise to have these issues sorted out before next time.

Sticking with the fall beer theme from the past two weeks I want to educate folks on wet hopped beers. Pumpkin beers dominate Fall with Oktoberfest beers coming in a distant second and wet hopped beers a bit of a rarity.

Book Review: Farmhouse Ales by Phil Markowski

I always ask for a deluge of books for Christmas. I love giving and receiving books for birthdays or the holidays. They’re little bundles of knowledge that enrich the life of the giftee. Which is to say get ready for a couple book reviews over the next few weeks. Farmhouse Ales and Wild Brews have both been on my must read homebrewing list for a few years so I was stoked to receive them both as gifts. Farmhouse Ales ended up on the top of the pile of books so we’re tackling that first, look forward to Wild Brews soon!

Queen City Drinks One Year Anniversary Party

I just wanted to post a few pictures that Charlie and I took at the Queen City Drinks one-year anniversary party. I don’t know how the other writers feel, but for me it’s been a great experience writing occasionally for this site. My writing has improved as I have tried to make my posts more descriptive and useful to all types of readers, and I have learned so much both through researching stories and from reading everyone else’s posts. Especially about beer and beer related events in Cincinnati. Thanks so much to Josh for getting this website started and for his continued leadership and to Tom for keeping it updated and relevant on a day-to-day basis. And a huge thank you to Fifty West Brewing for hosting this party and for allowing us to bring in our own beer to share. There aren’t many places in Cincinnati that would let you do something like that.  And of course the biggest thank you of all goes to all you readers and brewers reading this who make up the community. It was great getting to finally meet many of you in person Thursday. Now that we know each other in real life and not just on twitter I hope to be seeing a lot more of you. So here are just a few pictures of the night. It was a great time and I had my fair share of beer so they might not all be the best quality but I think that is a sign of a really great evening. Cheers everyone and here is to another great year ahead for Queen City Drinks.
